Today, the 18th of Nissan, is the birthday of the Rebbe's saintly father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson. He was the Chief Rabbi of Yekaterinoslav, a chassid, a kabbalist, and a prolific writer; and the Rebbe often quoted and mentioned teachings in his name. Tomorrow, the 18th of Nissan, marks the passing of the Rav, Rabbi Joseph Ber Soloveitchik, the Rosh Yeshiva of Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (Yeshiva University). Rabbi Soloveitchik held the Rebbe in great esteem and came to visit the Rebbe several times.

The Rebbe would farbreng yearly in honour of his birthday, and for chassidim all over the world, it is a day of celebration and one on which to strengthen one’s connection to the Rebbe. Every year, in the days and weeks leading up to Pesach, the Rebbe would encourage all Jews to give money to “Maos Chitim,” (“wheat money”), the fund established to provide money to needy families so they could celebrate Pesach appropriately.
Last Sunday, a group from North Miami who had come to New York to spend shabbos at the Ohel, the Rebbe’s resting place, toured JEM. The tour was inspired by Zusha Tenenbaum, a JEM Foundation member, who was part of the group.
