Unprecedented: Ashreinu presents a timeline of the story of the arrest and liberation of the Alter Rebbe, as told by the Rebbe.
Always looking for ways to produce new, fresh content, the Ashreinu team set out to prepare an unprecedented feature: the Yud Tes Kislev story, in the Rebbe’s own words.
The importance of repeating the story every year, and the relevance of its lessons today, was explained by the Rebbe on many occasions. But one place with all the Rebbe’s Sichos on the story itself has never been created before.
Starting out with a few leads, the Ashreinu team spent many hours over recent weeks going through the lengthy Yud Tes Kislev Farbrengens of the Rebbe throughout the many years. In addition, many clips were found from Farbrengens on other days, such as Yud Beis Tammuz and even Purim. Piece by piece, clip by clip, the story emerged, with over 30 pieces ranging in duration from 30 seconds to a few minutes long.
All the research was tagged in an interactive timeline, grouping the parts of the story in the year in which they occurred.
The background of the story was told by the Alter Rebbe’s grandson R’ Nochum. Each year, R’ Nochum would recount the entire tale from its beginning, making sure to start again if anyone came in late. The story, as repeated by the Rebbe on Yud Tes Kislev 1961, begins in 1763 with the Alter Rebbe traveling to study under the tutelage of his the Maggid, where he would spend 10 years. This is the first clip on the timeline.
The saga continues with further stories, insights, and anecdotes, of the Alter Rebbe’s arrest, his journey to Peterburg, the time in jail and details of his lengthy interrogation, and finally culminating in the joyous day of Yud Tes Kislev and the celebrations that followed.
The timeline is sure to enhance your Yud Tes Kislev celebrations, for young and old alike.
